How to make Ragi flour (finger millet) cerelac/porridge for the weaning child

Nutritional recipe from Ragi for the babies

Hello all, welcome to my new blog. In this blog, I am going to tell you one good recipe from ragi flour for your weaning child. A child's birth is the best gift in our life. Those are the happiest moments to cherish. The full one year is challenging specially the sixth month introduction of solid foods to the baby. Mothers are often in dilemma which foods to introduce to the weaning baby. There comes an important role of research by moms about different variety of nutritional foods for the babies.

I also did a lot of googling for my daughter's weaning food. We all know that Ragi is often called as finger millet or Nachni. It is extremely nutritious cereal as it helps baby's overall growth and development. Reason being:

  • Ragi is the rich source of fibre.
  • It contains huge amount of iron and calcium
  • It is low in fat.
  • It is considered as the best weaning food post 5th month completion for babies which can be given everyday as it is easily digestible.

And this is the recipe which I introduced for my daughter when she completed five months:

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 Kg raw NACHNI / RAGI / FINGER MILLET

1 Tsp each - WHEAT + TOOR DAL+ MOONG DAL+ URAD DAL+ MASOOR DAL+ CHANA DAL

1 small cup dry fruit nuts - CASHEWS, WALNUTS & ALMONDS  (together)

RECIPE:

Wash all the ingredients properly and separately in a container. After washing, soak all the cereals, pulses and dry fruits in water overnight. Next day, take them all out of water and let it gets dried up in the sunlight. Keep it covered with a light cloth so that sunlight reaches inside the container whole day. You may keep them in the sunlight for the second day also if you feel there is little moisture in it. Make sure they are fully dried up.

Take a mixer jar, grind the dried up mix properly to the flour. And the flour is ready. Take this flour in a separate container for future use. And this is the enhanced version of Ragi flour packed with cereals, pulses and dry fruits to get additional benefits.

Whenever you want to use it as cerelac, use it with water. Boil 2 tsp of the flour with 1 cup of water. Always ensure to adjust its consistency according to the child. Few babies can gallop thick consistency foods and few likes flowing consistency. My daughter used to like flowing consistency foods at that age. And you are the best one who knows the kind of consistency for your baby.

For making porridge from the same flour, add water + jaggery accordingly + bit of ghee. Few babies like sweet more than normal. Ensure ghee should be in a very nominal amount as babies have weak digestion in that age.

So, once you prepare this for the baby, you will understand how much quantity is required every time. Hope you will enjoy making this super food for your super child .

How to teach financial literacy to Kids?

How to teach financial literacy to Kids? No doubt, parenting is a tough job but one or the other day we do that in our life journey. No one teaches us about that. It is the personal experience of one’s life. Similarly, our kids have to make basic financial decisions in their life at some point of time. They have to make wise investment decisions ahead to be successful in life. With proper skills and knowledge about how to use money wisely at a young age, they can have good financial success in their lives. Investing is one of the abandoned component in the school curriculum of our children. This means learning fundamental basics of finances by kids in terms of --- saving up allowances, controlling impulsive buys, finding ways to make money through chores etc Teaching English language is important and teaching financial language is as important as teaching English. In simple terms, it means the usage of money further for getting income or profits. As a parent, it is our basic resp

Importance of Nutrition in Kids

How to explain importance of Nutrition to kids In my previous blog, I have shared many things about positive parenting in modern era.Now a days, parents are bit sceptical how to introduce the concept of value of nutrition to their children as kids today are more interested in having junk food. Parents who make good  nutritional  choices for their kids throughout childhood assist in keeping childhood obesity at bay as well as other diseases that can develop in adulthood like hypertension, diabetes, and heart diseases.  Balanced and healthy  diet  strengthens your child's immune system, helps him or her maintain healthy weight, and aids in his or her brain and bone development.                                      What I feel is that value of Nutrition should be introduced to the kids at an early childhood stage so that they can learn sharing and socialising skills along with good eating habits .Proper and  balanced nutrition makes them mentally and physically sound as they can perfo

How to make your child a keen reader

Reading at an early stage                                             In today's digital world when everything is available online, it is difficult to create a reading space for your child. Reading is important for emotional and intellectual development of the child. There is a very famous saying, "Books are the best friends". No doubt in that. Reading on regular basis helps in following ways: Builds imagination in the child. Improves vocabulary and better comprehension. Develops concentration. Sparks creativity. One thing to be noted - "A reader today, leader tomorrow".  So we can see there are many benefits to inculcate reading habits in your child. This habit will definitely make them land in their world of imagination.   I can say from my personal experience that reading makes a child, a creative thinker. My seven year old daughter developed this habit at an early stage. When she was almost two years, I introduced hard board books to
