How to explain importance of Nutrition to kids






In my previous blog, I have shared many things about positive parenting in modern era.Now a days, parents are bit sceptical how to introduce the concept of value of nutrition to their children as kids today are more interested in having junk food.
Parents who make good nutritional choices for their kids throughout childhood assist in keeping childhood obesity at bay as well as other diseases that can develop in adulthood like hypertension, diabetes, and heart diseases. Balanced and healthy diet strengthens your child's immune system, helps him or her maintain healthy weight, and aids in his or her brain and bone development.

        


                           

What I feel is that value of Nutrition should be introduced to the kids at an early childhood stage so that they can learn sharing and socialising skills along with good eating habits .Proper and balanced nutrition makes them mentally and physically sound as they can perform daily activities with more concentration.


 
  
Meal sharing helps your child develop social emotional skills with other kids.

   
     Meal time should be the family time



Allow children to eat on their own no matter how much time they take to finish the meal.

   
Nutrition for children can also help establish a foundation for healthy eating habits and nutritional knowledge that your child can apply throughout life.Under-nutrition in children can lead to lack of interest in learning and physical activities which can negatively hamper their overall growth and development.Few points to mention here are:
  • Introduce variety of food to your child at an early stage so as to avoid them to become picky eaters.
  • Avoid making them eat in front of TV, I-pad or mobile phone. Believe me, it makes a big difference.
  • Always ensure they take proper balanced diet in their plate.This habit will help them in future too.
  • Try to take out time to sit and have meals with them.Discussions during meal times create positivity in your child.In this busy world, accompanying them during the meal time is very important.This way they share their thoughts with parents.
  • If your child doesn't like particular taste, start by trying to give him or her small serving first.There may be a possibility that he or she likes it the second time and ask for it again.
  • Ensure they eat whatever is served to them as this is the first step towards good disciplined nutrition habits.
  • Limit the intake of sugar in your child's diet as more sugar makes their stomach full easily.This way they will focus on other foods also.
  • Also, limit the intake of junk food in children.This will definitely shift their focus on other healthy foods.
